This guy made such a classic mix-up, no pun intended. When his wife asked him to dress up as Homer, she was referring to the character from the Simpsons.
However, he thought she meant a completely different Homer and showed up dressed as Homer, the classical historian of Ancient Greece, attributed with authoring both the Iliad and the Odyssey. Well, at least his wife and child are in theme, although this mess up would make for a classic episode of the Simpsons.
